How to Let your Voice Be Heard:
Your elected officials, boards, and staff want to hear from you. To be most effective please be courteous and succinct. Even if you are a little upset, smother them with kindness. They are all excellent and courteous people themselves.
- Contact Planning Staff (TBD city directory link). This can be VERY effective. Be sure to be clear on what actions staff are willing to take and then follow up. Beware that if you disagree with an administrative decision, you only have 30 days in which to appeal that decision. Ask staff and CAN Board members for advice about appeals. Time is ticking!
- Contact P&Z by email or make public comment at meeting.
- Contact City Council by email all, by email individually, by phone, or via public comment at meeting.
- Contribute comments, discuss, and/or share what you have learned with the CAN listserv (list@AshevilleCAN.org)
- If you cannot attend the public hearing, a CAN representative is often present who might speak on your behalf.
Feel free to ask for guidance from CAN members. We have been through the wringer more than a few times.
